Title: tracker 1000b just a dot on the screen.
Post by: ninja_zx11 on May 06, 2013, 10:40:41 AM
hello guys, i just bought a used tracker 1000b.It only starts giving trace after sitting powered on for at least 10-15 mins. Doesn't matter i press any switch,it just gives dot for first 10 mins. After that it works normally.I hooked up oscilloscope to the probes and found that it gives no frequency when it throws just dot but i get 80hz signal as soon as it starts giving trace on the screen. So does it means bad oscillator? If its a oscillator, can it be repaired then? I am just a hobbyist and not a pro. Thanks in advance...

Hi Ninja,
Welcome to the Huntron forum.
Looks like the 80Hz oscillator is not working. No replacements available but you may be interested in the discussion on this thread:

Thanks.

thanks for the schematic admin.i will try to look into the oscillator.

hi, Can this sine wave generator "hxxp://xxx.ebay.ca/itm/261139188332?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649" be  used as a oscillator replacement,if we adjust the peak to peak volts to 10volts and adjust the frequency to 80hz? Thanks

Note: please change xx to tt and www in the link. Thanks

Hi ninja,
Good question. Unknown at this point but whether it is worth the $19.00 to find out is up to you. You really just need to feed a 80Hz sine wave into the signal transformer primary so it may work.

I ordered that part from ebay and was waiting. The other day i was getting bored and thought of taking out the oscillator out from the huntron. So i took it out and blew hot air around the can from all sides and re soldered back to the board..and guess what...got a trace back all the times which i was getting after turning the unit for atleast 10 mins.So i think it could be some bad joint?? But don't know if its a temp fix or permanent.Time will tell.

Sometimes a little tap on the case of those old oscillators would get them going - for a while at least.

It must be possible to make a cheap 80Hz oscillator / clock with a crystal and countdown circuit with suitable driver.
