Title: Tracker 2000 cable to DSI700
Post by: Millerrl143 on December 09, 2012, 05:04:09 PM
Hi everyone,  I am looking for a pinout of the cable linking the Tracker 2000 (mine is the old brown one S/R # starts with 240) to a gray DSI 700 (S/r # starts with 316).  I would appreciate any help in locating this information. I'm really new to the Huntron world so this forum will be a huge help to me.  Thanks in advance.

Is the cable for the brown Tracker 2000 different from the later grey Tracker 2000?
A photograph of the socket would confirm this.
The cable on the grey Tracker 2000 to DSI700 only has Ground, Power, & Clock so should not be dificult to make up if no longer available from Huntron.
Perhaps Curtis could confirm if the cable is the same as on newer models.

My light brown 2000 also has a three pin connector, so that should help me.  i have the schematic for it and trying to find one and the operations manual for the DSI700.  The DSI has a standard flat 4 pin that just happens to match an old cable from a computer.  Just have to swap the pins around on each end and grind one pin off of the other end to match my Huntron 2000.  I thought maybe the cable drawing was still available.  Thanks for your input.  I am glad I picked up the 2000 since I am finding how nice the gating is to check transistors.  Can't do that on the 1000 so I made a good choice.  I really like this thing.  Took me about ten minutes to find the first bad transistor on my HP 1710A power supply!!  :-)  Sure a valuable piece of equipment.

Your right the the Tracker 2000 is a good piece of test gear.
The grey Tracker 2000 has 4 pins as does the DSI700.
Should be no problem to identify signals on the 4 pins.
I just had a look at my grey Tracker 2000 and found the signals on the pins from the pin nearest the outer edge of the case go as follows.
Pin 1 = +15 Volts, Pin 2 = -15 volts, pin 3 =ground, & Pin 4 = clock at 5 volts TTL level (Pin nearest the mains in).
Looks like the DSI 700 has the same pinout but might be wise to confirm pin 3 is also the ground pin on the DSI 700, but looks like the cable is a straight pin1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2 etc.
The Tracker 2000 "com" is linked to ground but not the DSI 700 until it is connected at the front to the Tracker 2000.
If your brown Tracker 2000 has a 3 pin connector, I wonder which signal is not used on this version.
Hope this helps.

The brown case 2000 lacks the -12V line that the newer (grey) 2000 has. Pin 1 on the brown 2000 is +12V, pin 2 is ground and pin 3 is the clock (rate). There were also changes to the grey case 2000's (serial number 18000 and higher) signal PCB that enabled better syncing of the sinewave to the DSI700.

Hi Millerri143 Have you found a method of getting your Brown Tracker 2000 to work with your DSI 700.
I don't suppose the information I gave you was of much use.
My Tracker 2000A Serial No. 17255 also has + and - 15 V. supplies, so very different from the Brown Tracker 2000.
My grey Tracker 2000A would appear to be different from the grey Tracker 2000 that has 12 volt suppies that Curtis has has written about above.
As I have now got a Pro Track the Tracker & DSI does not get used that much.

Sorry everyone for the delay in getting back on here.  I was visiting my Mother-in-law over the Christmas holidays.   I appreciate all the help from everyone and I see there is a slight difference between the older brown Tracker 2000 and the newer gray Tracker 2000.  I can work around the -12vdc pin issue for the power to the DSI 700.  I was puzzled when reading that the DSI 700 needed +/- 12vdc but I did not see where the minus voltage was coming from.  Now I know.  :D  Very easy to get around this one! LOL  I thank you all very much for your time and efforts.

Have you got your old Tracker 2000 to successfully synchronize with your DSI 700?

Sorry for the delay but I have been working on a hydraulics interface box for my neighbor's tractor.  Just finished it up so now back to my projects.  I have added another banana jack on the rear panel for the -12vdc output and will be wipping up a cable assembly very quickly.  I have to make another for my 410 unit as well.   :)   So in a week or so I should be able to test all of these interfaces to the earlier model 2000.   Everything on my 2000 works like a champ and I really like this piece of equipment.  I can see why Huntron has so many followers!!

Soor for this post.  I don't see a way of killing a post once the process is started.  If anyone knows of a method let this "newbie" know.  ::)

No worries. You should be able to use the Remove button in the upper right corner of your post.

Sorry everyone.  I found that there was no clock output signal coming out of my Tracker 2000.    I have found that U12 POR signal is good but the NOT POR signal is not an inverted replica of POR.  NOT POR seems to be as clocking the circuitry that generates the clock signal.   I have ordered a new 4538B chip and this should solve the problem.  THEN I can get to the syncing the tracker 2000 to the DSI700 issue!  LOL   Everything else on my old brown Tracker 2000 seems to work just fine.    I believe I am correct in my circuit thinking that U21 is not getting clocked and it drives Q12 which generates the clock signal.  I should have the parts by early next week.  Ordered some CMOS spares for this unit due to its age.

Just to set the record straight this old technician really screwed up.  The second half of U12 was working correctly all the time. I did not catch the significance of what POR and NOT POR stood for.  Power on Reset!!  ::) The chip was working exactly as it should and creating only one single pulse from the Q and Not Q output. NOT POR is used to set all the logic on the rest of the board to their correct power on state!  I apologize for my screwup.  I had replaced the CD4538B and both timing caps before I figured out I was totally screwed up in my thinking.  Put this one down to a Huntron "Newbie".    :-[
